Article Abstract
The modern fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and ofloxacin are known to induce central nervous system(CNS)side effects. Next to gastrointestinal effects,CNS symptoms such as dizziness, headache, restlessness,tremor,and/or insomnia are the most commonly reported toxicities, occurring in 0.1%to 4%of patients. In addition, other neuropsychiatric effects like seizures, psychosis, confusion, agitation, and asthenia may be infrequently associated with use of these agents. All are reversible after drug withdrawal and are generally not dose dependent. To our knowledge, based upon a review of the literature, the following case represents the first reported occurrence of eosinophilic meningitis associated with ciprofloxacin administration.
