Paramedian Thalamic and Midbrain Infarcts Associated with Palilalia JNNP 53:797-799, Yasuda,Y.,et al, 1990 See this aricle in Pubmed Article Abstract A patient with paramedian thalamic and midbrain infarcts developed palilalia.Palilalia is a speech abnormality characterised by compulsive repetition of a phrase or word and was first described by Souques in 1908. Reports of palilalia are rare and the cause is unknown.Clinical and neuropathological findings by Boller et al concluded that it is associated with a disturbance of the extrapyramidal system.Patients with paramedial thalamic lesions whose altered consciousness,ocular motility changes, abnormal movements,memory disturbance,and aphasia.We observed a patient with palilalia for four months.MRI showed infarcts in the medial thalami, subthalami and midbrain on both sides,but no other lesions.We present the first report of paramedian thalamic and midbrain infarcts associated with palilalia.
