Early Child Development and Exposure to Antiepileptic Drugs Prenatally and Through Breastfeeding JAMA Neurol 70:1367-1374, Veiby, G.,et al, 2013 See this aricle in Pubmed Article Abstract Prenatal exposure to antiepileptic drugs was associated with impaired fine motor skills already at age 6 months, especially when the child was exposed to multiple drugs. There were no harmful effects of breastfeeding. Women with epilepsy should be encouraged to breastfeed their children irrespective of antiepileptic drug treatment.
