Gadolinium-Enhanced MR in Spinal Infection J Comput Assist Tomogr 14:721-729, Post,M.J.D.,et al, 1990 See this aricle in Pubmed Article Abstract This study showed that disc protrusion occurred in combination with disc space infections.Local factors such as the secretion by hyaluronidase from Staphyylococcus aureus may play an important role in causing focal disc protrusion.The clinical importance of this finding is in the recognition that a significant part of the compromise of the spinal canal in cases of disc infection can be related to disc fragments engendered by the infectious process.
